Fog and Crime

Year: 2004

Organization: Riccardo Donna

Production: Casanova Multimedia, Rai Fiction; Prodotto da Aureliano Lalli-Persiani, Luca Barbareschi, Susanna Bolchi; Produzione Rai: Lorenza Bizzarri

The mini-series was structured into four autonomous episodes inspired by as many novels written by Valerio Varesi and was scripted by Silvia Napolitano and Angelo Pasquini. Riccardo Donna directed the series. Luca Barbareschi played the lead role.

Each of the films has at its centre an investigation by detective Soneri, chief of police in Ferrara who is a loner in his job and in his private life. A small number of faithful agents constitute a separate group within the police headquarters. Soneri’s investigations focus on a series of crimes very different each from the other. Each of them hides a disquieting mystery and bring to light tragic and bitter, surprising or grotesque, aspects of an industrious and apparently quiet world in the Po region of Central Italy. This is one of the richest and developed of Italy.

On the wake of the great literary and cinema detectives of the past, the restless Soneri is not content to merely identify a culprit. It is as if the murderer were surrounded by a web of different motivations, of all invasive co-responsibilities as if the crime were the rotten fruit of an environment where time has layered resentments, injustice never righted and a pervasive desire for revenge.
