The spoilsports

Year: 1997

Organization: Egidio Romio

Production: N.A.

The spoilsports was a television variety show, broadcast on Canale 5 from the 19th of October 1996 during prime time on Saturday nights. Massimo Lopez and Luca Barbareschi conducted the show. Teamed up with them were Laura Freddi and Cristina Quaranta, protagonists of hilarious comedy sketches with jokes and musical interludes. Fatma Ruffini edited the programme.

During the performance, somewhere between a show called “Scherzi a Parte”, a programme with practical jokes and a Candid Camera, the hosts would make fun of common people and of the audience in the studio.

Massimo Lopez and Luca Barbareschi together with Laura Freddi and Cristina Quaranta, who appeared in dances choreographed by Brian Bullard and Garrison Rochelle, would conduct the programme from a studio that evoked the atmosphere of the 1940s. The soul of the show was Barbareschi, who appeared disguised as a series of fictional characters. After the fourth episode, however he did not host the programme any more.

After having made a joke on the Euro tax – a hot topic during Romano Prodi's government in 1996 - whereby he encouraged Italians not to pay the tax, Barbareschi was ousted  by  Mediaset for several years.[3] Teo Mammucari edited the Candid Camera’s.
